Description
The Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in Székesfehérvár is a place of paramount importance in Hungarian history. The coronation of our kings - from Saint Stephen to the Turkish occupation - can be linked to this place, but this church also provided a place for royal weddings and often state events (law-making days, national assemblies, appointments). The material relics and equipment related to these festive events - at least on site - have understandably not survived. At the same time, experts dealing with the basilica have been preoccupied since the beginning of historical, art historical and archaeological research with a group of relics that are also linked to the church area and have survived to us at least in part, namely the group of built tombs, which have not been able to be examined in a complex way for a long time. However, the possible results that can be linked to this can help the ongoing archaeogenetic research in many ways.
